With family origins from Asia Minor and the mountain district of Lassithi in Creta, both with rich music tradition, Georgia Velivasaki was born and raised in Heraclion, the capital city of the island. Still a teenager, she moves in Athens to study music, starting, in parallel, her endeavor to build a career as a solo singer. Very soon, in her first professional appearances, Georgia supports famous Greek artists as Manolis Mitsias, Dimitris Mitropanos, Pantelis Thalassinos in concerts all over Greece and abroad. In 1996 she attracts attention of AM Records and consequently her first LP "Stou Notou tis Foties (Fires of South)" enjoys a most favorable reception from media and the critics. Soon after her second cd "Krata Gera (Be Strong)" in 1998, Georgia creates her own band steadily building ever-since a growing recognition and respect for her dedication in choosing quality although rather off mainstream paths. The cooperation with composer Costas Athiridis underlines a shift to a more electric and sometimes alternative music result. Cds "Sexual Instinct" (2003) and "Synnefa (Clouds)" (2004) mark Georgia's new musical orientation as well as her introduction as a lyrics writer. Her live-concerts now include songs from the Mediterranean, Greek traditional songs sometimes blended with R&B, rock or even trip-hop approaches. The invitation to participate with Timna Brauer & Elias Meiri, Marwan Ababo, Wr. Tschuschenkapelle, Adula Ibn Quadr, Kadero, Otto Lechner and others in the Panmediterranes Konzert ïrganized by ORF RADIÏ CULTURHAUS in Vienna on 3 April 2006 is undoubtedly a worth mentioning moment in Georgia' s career. In the 2009 live concerts, Georgia - in cooperation with Aris Zarakas, member of the group RODES - accompanied by a group of excellent musicians promotes the Gaia songs in a program worth-seeing. |
