MNEMES UNBORN
Performance Poetry Art
Poetic Transcriptions – 7 poets, 14 poetic artworks
Geo–V & Perfo Poet Art
22 & 23 November 2021 (21:00)
The society of culture «EPOPSIS» presents the intermedial performative poetic artwork «Mnemes Unborn» by Georgia Velivasaki (Geo-V) and the group of artists «Perfo Poet Art» directed by Constantine Athirides and curated by Yannis Mitrou.
THE PERFORMANCE
The focal point of the artwork are texts by modern Greek writers brought together by the Postgraduate Program «Creative Writing» of the University of Western Macedonia; Georgia Velivasaki, Zacharias Katsakos, Triantaphyllos Η. Kotopoulos, Dimitris P. Naskos, Yorgos Panayotidis, Kiki Sarantea and Antonis Skiathas.
Seven poets, fourteen poetic artworks, fourteen different illustrative and performative approaches, both live and recorded on film, form a complete inter-artistic participatory poem-art. It is a poetic composition that goes «beyond the page», a commentary on the human hypostasis in modern reality. The emergence of the individual from the moist earth in space-time, uncertainty, love, frustration, the «Ego» and the «Other»; the world and violence, alienation, loneliness and finally, life as a recollection and dream against a backdrop of hope for immortality, as man moves from the analog to the digital self. The «Mnemes Unborn» unfold in the here-and-now, compressing the unthinkable, the simultaneous presence and absence of existence.
Other non-textual artistic voices collaborate in the making of the cinematographic images creating additional semantic links and enhancing each poetic text by giving them new dimensions: Constantine Athirides (director / composer), Christos Alaveras and Ioanna Skantzeli (visual artists), Eleni Kopasaki (photographer), Andreas Ziakas, Konstantinos Ifantis (musicians/ composers), Vangelis Bantis (dancer), Vanessa Barré and Patricia Belonia-Barré (performers) and everyday people who become protagonists, such as ninety-year-old Venizelos Antoniadis and young Dimitris Stefanidis.
On stage, three musicians (Maria Anissegou, Andreas Ziakas, Kostas Maginas), three performers (Georgia Velivasaki, Vanessa Barré, Sebastian Tsifis) and two visual artists (Christos Alaveras, Ioanna Skantzeli) contribute to the live transcription of the poetic speech into different artistic fields and codes, unfolding and resignifying it through the art of performance, voice, body, music and sound landscapes, installations, dance, video projection, musical improvisations and visual action, leading to a three-dimensional poetic event that engages the audience in a reflective, multilevel and multisensory experience.
This project has the support and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, as well as under the auspices of the University of Western Macedonia (UOWM).
